courses & programs

Explore the different programs we offer to engage kids on the basics of science.

Scientific Method

The scientific method is a foundational cornerstone of science. The program will layout the basics of the scientific method. Furthermore, various experiments will be conducted and the various components of the scientific method will be incorporated. Experiments such as measuring the bouncing heights of various balls to testing parachutes for lego minifigures, will be conducted with an emphasize on utilizing the various components of the scientific method.

Physics

Discover how physics impacts all of our daily lives by learning about forces. For example, we will utilize tennis balls to understand the impact of gravity on Earth as well as utilize simulations to learn about gravity in space. Furthermore, the effects of friction on gravity will be studied and experiments will be run utilizing a zipline with different materials.

Chemistry

Chemistry causes cars to move, fireworks to blow up, and soda to fizz. It’s one of the most complicated but fun parts of science. We will use online simulations to explain how chemistry makes a car run and a firework explode. Then, we will use yeast and lemon juice to blow up a balloon without using our breath.

Electricity

Wondering what powers the world? Look no further than electricity. First, learn how electricity powers all of our lives by deconstructing common technology and observing how it uses electricity. Then work with your fellow classmates to design your very own, working flashlight.

PHYSICS KIT

CLASS ONE

In this class students will use receive an introduction to chemical reactions by observing a reaction taking place. Students will react baking soda and vinegar together and learn about the bond and substances that it forms. Students will observe the formation of a gas in a balloon to confirm that a reaction is occurring.

Lesson Plan: Included with purchasing this kit is the lesson plan that would be used in an in-person Science Rules! class. This includes instructions for the experiment as well as instructions for the class itself.

Worksheet: Included is a worksheet tailored to the introduction to chemical reactions as well as the experiment.

Materials: Included in this kit are the materials needed for the experiment. This includes a bottle, vinegar, baking soda, a balloon, and a funnel.

CLASS TWO

This class will introduce scientists to the age old volcano eruption experiment with its own twist on it. First students will be taught the way that the volcano generally works. Then the students will build their own volcano, designing it themselves.

Lesson Plan: Included with purchasing this kit is the lesson plan that would be similar in an in-person Science Rules! class. This includes instructions for the experiment as well as instructions for the class itself.

Worksheet: Included is a worksheet tailored to the introduction to chemical reactions as well as the experiment.

Materials: Included in this kit are the materials needed for the experiment. This includes a soda bottle,  dish soap, white vinegar, baking soda and food coloring.

CLASS THREE

Now, using what we know, combined with the scientific method your scientist will be faced with a challenge. They will be tasked with finding out which substance will create the biggest volcanic eruption. They will be provided with three different (safe) acids and three different measuring cups and will have to experiment to find the most explosive volcano.

Lesson Plan: Included with purchasing this kit is the lesson plan that would be similar in an in-person Science Rules! class. This includes instructions for the experiment as well as instructions for the class itself.

Worksheet: Included is a worksheet tailored to the introduction to chemical reactions as well keeping track of which substance is the most explosive.

Materials: Included in this kit are the materials needed for the experiment. This includes a soda bottle,  dish soap, white vinegar, ketchup, citric acid, baking soda and food coloring.
